REVIEW SAMSUNG S9 PLUS INDONESIAN

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus enter the market with a position that is not easy; both smartphones must certainly be able to continue the achievements of their predecessors Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus which were released in 2017.

the feature between Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus "only" lies in several things:
- Number of cameras (S9 has one front camera and one rear camera and S9 + has two rear cameras and one front camera.)
- Size (S9 has a 5.8 "screen and S9 + 6, 2 inches)
- Battery capacity (S9 3000 mAh and S9 + 3500 mAh)
- RAM (S9 4GB and S9 + 6GB)

Therefore, please assume that the features we describe below are also available on Galaxy S9, unless we explicitly state that only available on S9 Plus.

Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus continue to feature most of the S8 series, but do not offer many new innovations or substantial features. Other new features such as AR Emoji actually seem like a prolonged use-value gimmick.

1. Design
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus still carry the "Infinity Display" screen which was first applied in the S8 series. Just like the S8, the S9 series also uses an elegant curved screen that covers most of the surface of this smartphone. On the back side of the Galaxy S9 Plus there are both cameras and flash lights and a fingerprint scanner. The back of the S9 Plus also comes with Gorilla Glass 5 glass material, so it has a shiny and reflective texture. You will feel like you are holding a smartphone that has a screen on two sides. In my opinion, this makes the smartphone design very striking and certainly nice to see.
However, this is also one of its weaknesses. Galaxy S9 Plus feels very slippery; coupled with its large size and weight, this smartphone is sometimes rather difficult to hold stable. If you are not careful, this smartphone can easily escape or even fall from your grasp. This problem can be solved by applying a case that has been included with the purchase package, but of course this will sacrifice the feel when holding this smartphone which I think is the biggest attraction .

Galaxy S9 Plus comes with three physical buttons:
> Power / lock switch button on the right
> Volume button
> Special button for Bixby - Samsung's virtual assistant - on the left.
The edges around the S9 series are also reinforced with an aluminum layer that makes it more resilient. For those of you who are still skeptical of wireless headphones, be happy! The Galaxy S9 Plus still loads the headphone jack at the bottom. The bottom of the S9 Plus also includes a MicroUSB port / charger and stereo speakers which Samsung finally introduced in the S9 series. Stereo use means that the sound from the smartphone will not be closed by your hand when you are using it in landscape mode.

2. Display
As in terms of design, the Galaxy S9 Plus screen does not bring a drastic change from the S8 series. The Galaxy S9 Plus AMOLED screen covers a very large percentage of its surface area. However, the Galaxy S9 Plus's screen-to-body ratio does not increase substantially compared to the S8 Plus; only 0.2 percent. With a resolution of 2960 × 1440 pixels the S9 Plus screen barely changes from the S8 Plus. However, in my opinion this is indeed an aspect that does not require renewal.

3. Camera
In the S9 series, Samsung carries the tagline "The Camera, Redefined" which means that the camera is the feature they most highlight. The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus cameras offer many new features, such as dual aperture cameras that can be adapted to shooting conditions, while the S9 Plus itself also has an additional telephoto camera with 2x zoom function.
Super Slow-Mo works according to expectations, but don't expect this feature to be an automatic button to turn your videos into cool ones. From my experiments, even in this automatic mode this feature requires you to have a quick timing to ensure that the slow-motion effect is applied at the right moment. This feature is simple to use, but getting a good recording requires a little practice and not a little luck.

4. Performance
Another advantage of the S9 Plus series compared to the S8 is in terms of processor performance. Judging from the figures, the S9 Plus performance is a considerable improvement from the S8 series. The capability of the Exynos 9810 octa-core processor in the S9 Plus can already compete with rival smartphones like the iPhone X, although it is still lagging behind. The full benchmark number can be seen below:
During my experiment, S9 Plus was able to run various daily tasks such as chat and browsing smoothly. I also tried it to play various games that were quite popular like PUBG, Tekken and Injustice 2 without any lag or stutter. But from my experiment, after thirty minutes of use there was a slight increase in battery temperature. The increase is not significant and should not interfere with your use.
In terms of software, Galaxy S9 Plus uses Android OS 8.0 (Oreo). Of course, this means that the S9 Plus is bundled with the Google application family along with applications made by Samsung, which are partially similar in function. The bloatware problem that has long haunted Samsung smartphones seems to have not been resolved in the S9 series. Galaxy S9 Plus contains two email applications (E-mail and Gmail), two Internet browsers (Samsung Internet and Chrome), two photo storage applications (Gallery and Google Photos), and so on.

Bixby, it's better to forget?
Bixby, Samsung's virtual assistant who first debuted in the S8 series, was also back in the S9 series. Bixby is one of the most criticized features of the S8 series; many who call it tend to be simple and not as sophisticated as Google Assistant which is also available for Android OS.
From my experience, Bixby Voice has not been able to interpret my voice to its full potential. Several times, Bixby did not detect some of the words in the question I gave him. In the end, it may be faster and easier if you search for information yourself on Google.

AR Emoji, a mere gimmick?
The Galaxy S9 Plus features the AR Emoji feature that Samsung is proud of to appear in the official Galaxy S9 series introduction. You can take a portrait of your face and paste it into a three-dimensional cartoon. The cartoon can then be sent in the form of a picture or animated .GIF in the chat application.
As you can see, the end result ... let's say, 'it doesn't stand out aesthetically.' This feature is probably Samsung's answer to the Animoji features available on the iPhone X, but the concept of these two features is far different. Animoji synchronizes your facial movements and expressions with the various cartoons they have provided, while AR Emoji attaches your face texture to cartoons with proportions and computer-generated movements.

Intelligent Scan, a new tweak for biometric scanning
Other new features offered by Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are Intelligent Scan. This new biometric scan will give you the option to unlock your smartphone screen through scanning faces and irises. This feature is actually already available on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, but the S9 series integrates two features that were once different into one.

5. Conclusion
In general, from my invention Samsung understands what users like from the S8 series and continues on the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Infinity Display, which has won praise in the S8 series, continues in the S9 series, and the processor's performance has improved. A camera that is updated with new options such as the dual aperture feature and Super Slow-Mo will really help you who like to make photos or videos with a smartphone.
However, that is also the weakness. The advantages of Galaxy S9 Plus are not included in new innovations, but only an upgrade from previous iterations. Meanwhile, the new innovations presented by Samsung such as AR Emoji and Bixby updates just seem imperfect and do not add value to the use of this smartphone. If you borrow Apple's terminology, this smartphone might be more suitable to be called the Galaxy S8S than the Galaxy S9.
